Video & audio overview of the worksheet

What is the theory behind the worksheet?

Mental health conditions are interlinked with emotional regulation. The better the emotional regulation, the more managed the mental health condition becomes. However, emotional regulation takes practice and an individual needs to be aware of their emotions in a reflective manner to be able to regulate them.

Emotional awareness or emotional intelligence is an important skill that builds the foundation of emotional regulation.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet offers an opportunity to explore emotions through a free artistic medium. Reflecting in a group setting offers the opportunity to gain further insight into emotions in general and build on personal understandings and experiences.

A group will be able to share their reflections comfortably as they would have signed group confidentiality agreements.

How to use the worksheet?

As a therapist, you can use this activity in a group process for individuals with a variety of mental health conditions.

Allow for enough time for proper engagement in the artmaking process, this may mean extending the activity over two sessions.
