What is the theory behind the Attachment Therapy Worksheet for Adults?

Attachment Therapy focuses on how one’s childhood relationship experiences are influencing current relationship interaction patterns. It is particularly helpful for people who have had to face negative relationships in their childhood that are now impacting their ability to form and maintain meaningful relationships as adults. It is based on John Bowlby’s Attachment Theory that describes certain types of attachment styles that one forms on the basis of their early interactions with their primary caregivers.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will provide information about the four types of attachment styles baked on Bowlby’s Attachment Theory. Clients can use the given information to evaluate their own attachment style and identify any unhelpful patterns in their own relationships that they need to work on.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used as part of psychoeducation in relationship counselling. The therapist can go through the given pointers one by one to educate their client about the types of attachment styles and how they may affect one’s current relationships. The client can then be guided to highlight which parts of the given information they believe represent their own attachment style.
