Video & audio overview of the worksheet

What is the theory behind the worksheet?

Reacting emotionally to a situation is a behavior all individuals are capable of. Individuals on the spectrum may react more emotionally, especially as a child, and can get caught in a perseveration cycle over a situation.

Having a few questions (a process) to work through in a situation can help develop the skills to respond helpfully instead of reacting emotionally to ensure a beneficial outcome.

Using these questions helps to ‘pause’ the reaction and allow for an individual to engage their logical cognitive functions improves general responses and can be used to minimize perseveration cycles.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet offers five simple questions ordered in a manner that paves the way for an individual to pause and consider whether they need to react to a situation, and if so, what response will be beneficial. This encourages respectful and emotionally intelligent communication.

How to use the worksheet?

Use this worksheet for yourself or with your child. Practice using these questions when there is a situation that requires a reaction or response. Regular practice is important to make these questions familiar and the use of them habitual.
