What is the theory behind the worksheet?

Working with gender-affirming theory builds self-esteem and self-acceptance when dealing with gender dysphoria or gender identity. Affirming and positively viewing your gender identity is key to accepting and internalizing what this means to you.

There may be negative social stigma or reactions to your lived experience and this may leave you disinclined to disclose your gender identity. This might mean you feel isolated and can feel negative toward your gender identity. When you work with gender-affirming activities or therapy you can help invest in yourself.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will help by providing an opportunity for you to self-reflect and affirm your gender identity in a positive and accepting manner. Sometimes you may feel isolated or judged by others and this can decrease your self-esteem and lead to negative self-perception.

By having something positive to balance this out with you can ensure that you maintain a healthy self-concept.

How to use the worksheet.

Find a time when you are not going to be disturbed and reflect on all the positive and helpful qualities about yourself, particularly regarding your gender identity. Write these down in the rainbow and see if you can develop self-affirmations from these reflections.

If you struggle to think of these things, imagine you are talking to a friend in the same situation – what would you say to them? Could these things apply to you as well? Remember to be kind to yourself and remove judgment from your thoughts.
