According to the American Psychological Association, jealousy refers to ‘negative emotion in which an individual resents a third party for appearing to take away (or being likely to take away) the affections of a loved or adored one.’ Main cause of jealousy is low self esteem, which may have resulted from past traumatic events related to interpersonal relationships. Jealousy has a negative impact on individuals mental health that can further lead to severe forms of mental illnesses.
