What is the theory behind this worksheet?

Personalization is a type of cognitive distortion where a person relates external events to himself when there is no basis for making such a connection. For example, a parent blames himself because his child has difficulty making new friends.

In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), people have the opportunity to recognize and confront their cognitive distortions. Through this process, they can substitute these thoughts with ones that are more balanced and grounded in evidence.
