What is the theory behind the worksheet?

The concept, borrowed from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), emphasizes accepting uncontrollable aspects of life while focusing on behaviors that improve health and life quality.

One of the founders of ACT, Steven C. Hayes, sees the following approaches as part of recovery and says that by promoting agency, people are more likely to manage the probabilities involved in mental health recovery.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet helps as it allows you to identify which areas might have resistance, and recognizing them can help you address them more efficiently. In turn, this will enable you to stay calm whenever you feel your thoughts and emotions taking over.

It builds willpower and allows you to take real steps toward your recovery goals, even when you don’t feel like it.

How to use the worksheet?

  • Think and note down areas where you tend to resist or hesitate.
  • Pay attention to the feelings that are connected with these areas of resistance.
  • Consider how much of these feelings you are willing to have in recovery.
  • Think of simple achievable behavioral steps you can take to build your willingness.
  • Track your progress so you can note when things need some assistance.
