What is the theory behind this Today I am Feeling Worksheet?
Identification of one’s emotions is a key step in developing emotional regulation skills in young kids. Oftentimes, children are not able to express their emotions in words but can recognize how they feel at the time. Asking children about how they feel in the moment is a great way to help them gain a better understanding and awareness of their feelings.
How will the worksheet help?
This worksheet can be used as a daily check in sheet with young clients or school going children as a way to help them be aware of not just their own emotions but also the correct interpretation of what certain emotions look and feel like. It can also help the teacher or counsellor to further probe any negative feelings to help them feel better.
How to use the worksheet?
This worksheet can be used in individual or group therapy counselling sessions or in classroom settings under the supervision of the teacher. It is appropriate for children between the ages of 4 and 9. Instruct them to draw what they currently feel like, by recalling what certain emotions look like. If they are not comfortable with drawing they can also give their response in writing.
