What is the theory behind this anxiety fight or flee worksheet?
The sympathetic nervous system prepares our body for fight, flight (or flee) and freeze responses. It is our body’s natural alarm system in the face of danger. These survival responses are there to protect us from external dangers to preserve the human race. However, the overuse of these responses can be problematic as it leads to hypervigilance and overthinking in absence of life-threatening dangers.
How will the worksheet help?
The worksheet will help anxiety sufferers to understand what triggers their anxiety, what the accompanying bodily sensations are as well as the emotions that arise when our sympathetic nervous system is activated. This therapist-assisted worksheet will also help clients identify coping strategies to deal with the fight or flight response to stress.
