What is the theory behind this Body Language Autism Worksheet?

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental problem that can present itself with many challenges. One of the challenges is understanding emotional depth. This is very crucial for forming and maintaining interpersonal relationships.  People with autism might have a hard time using and understanding gestures, body language, or the tone and sounds of their voices. However, psychotherapy has proved to be helpful in teaching autistic individuals to understand different body language.

This worksheet will help clients having autism spectrum disorder in identifying body language and ascribing meaning to different gestures in an entertaining way. After practicing, the clients will be able to understand different body language in their daily lives. Furthermore, it will help the caretakers and the therapist in assessing the level of challenge the clients face in understanding body language.

How to use this worksheet?

To use this worksheet, look at the pictures of different people provided below carefully. Focus on their gestures of hands and social expressions. Try to understand what they are trying to say. In the given space, write what you think they are expressing. You can either write what they are saying between inverted commas or describe their body language in detail
