What is the theory behind this CBT ABCDE Worksheet?

The ABCDE model has 5 components that are: Activating events, Beliefs, Consequences, Disputation, and Effective approach. This technique is used to modify irrational ideas or thoughts with new realistic and helpful ideas which ultimately help you manage and eliminate different negative emotions.

How will this worksheet help?

The purpose of this worksheet is to pick out your negative, irrational thoughts or beliefs and change or modify them with new and effective thoughts by using the ABCDE approach of CBT. With the help of disputation, you get insight into the validity of your thoughts and you are more likely to change them with positive ones.

How to use the worksheet?  

Read the worksheet carefully and understand what ABCDE means and start filling this worksheet by recalling a recent triggering event. Find the evidence for and against your thought/belief and then develop a new effective approach that is more helpful.
