What is the theory behind this CBT evidence for and against worksheet?

One of the main goals of Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is cognitive restructuring. Psychological problems persist due to negative thoughts individuals have that are unrealistic, irrational and maladaptive. Finding evidence for and against these thoughts helps in dealing with them 

How will the worksheet help?  

This worksheet will help the clients in overcoming their ‘blind spots’ in thinking. By collecting evidence for and against their thoughts they will be able to identify the irrationality of them.

How to use this worksheet?

To use this worksheet, select a thought that you need to test and write evidence against and in favor of it based on your past experiences. Read those evidence thoroughly and give your verdict whether the thought is true or not.
