What is the theory behind this CBT Group Worksheet?

Clients who have emotional issues and come into therapy can be treated by using different therapeutic techniques. These techniques can be applied to individuals separately and sometimes in group settings. For that purpose, the techniques of therapy remain the same but their presentation to the client becomes different. Like thought behavior model, Socratic questioning, arrow down technique, etc. In this worksheet, only one of them has been covered ie ABC Model for thoughts.

How will the worksheet help?

The worksheet will help clients to challenge and learn about the connection between thoughts emotions and behavior. It will help them understand how our thoughts shape our behavior and have an impact on our reactions to anything. It will help them analyze their thoughts and they can have a look at their maladaptive behavior which makes the situation worst. It will motivate them to challenge their thoughts.

How to use the worksheet?

Instruct clients to write their situation. Ask them to write what were their thoughts and how they impacted their emotions and behavior. Ask them to write how others react to their response and at last, help them analyze how they would react if that thought didn’t come to their mind. It is essential that all group members fill out worksheets individually and then share their responses one by one.
