What is the theory behind this CBT OCD Worksheet?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterised by persistent intrusive thoughts that are followed by some sort of ritualistic or compulsive behaviour as a way of neutralising the thoughts. The intrusive thoughts and the subsequent rituals cause significant distress and impairment. Along with other usual CBT techniques, exposure and response prevention is said to work best to treat OCD symptoms.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will provide a simple CBT model for OCD that can help guide therapists or counsellors seeking to review their knowledge to treat clients with OCD. It can help remind them about the mechanisms that work to maintain OCD symptoms and how they can approach their client’s problems.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used by therapists or counsellors using CBT techniques to treat clients with OCD. They can use the given model in session both for their own ease to note down important information and to help the client understand their own condition.
