What is the theory behind this CBT Positive Self-talk Worksheet?
Self-talk is the inner dialogue we have with ourselves. This can be both negative or positive depending on how we perceive a situation. Negative self talk has the power to make an already difficult situation even more distressing for us by bringing us down. Positive self-talk can motivate and encourage us in hard times and help us feel good in an otherwise difficult situation. The goal of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is to help the client identify and modify thes every thoughts.
How will the worksheet help?
This worksheet will provide a list of positive sel-ftalk statements that can help clients get the idea about what qualifies as positive self-talk. Based on those they can even write some positive self-talk statements of their own that they can use in difficult times to feel better.
How to use the worksheet?
This worksheet can be used in the psychoeducation phase of Cognitive Behavioral Treatment to help clients understand the concept of self talk through examples. Instruct the client to think back on past negative experiences and write down some positive self-talk statements that could have helped them through that difficult situation.
