What is the theory behind this Challenging Belief Worksheet?

We all are human beings and we learn through our experiences even if it’s good or bad. Sometimes bad experiences create a negative impact on our self-image and we start making a certain rigid statement about ourselves world and our environment. This increased rate of negative experiences makes us more vulnerable to adopting unhealthy personalities and creating distress in interpersonal life. It is very important to deform those negative beliefs which are creating cognitive distortions and impair our point of view about life. By challenging these core beliefs we can help the client reduce their stress and have a better understanding of life. 

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will help the client identify their core belief which is creating dissatisfaction with self-other and the environment. The worksheet will give an idea about what core beliefs are there and to how much extent they are rigid. It will also give us an understanding of the client’s irrational thinking. The client will asses all the negative and positive life experiences in order to identify and support their core belief and it will help them promote their realistic thinking.   

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet is helpful for the client to identify their own Core beliefs. Instruct clients to identify all the negative beliefs about themselves. Later ask them to collect evidence in form of events in support of it and against it. Lastly, after answering all the questions write the alternative adaptive core belief.
