Communication is the transmission of information which may be verbal (oral or written) or nonverbal (conveying information without the use of spoken language).  

Humans communicate to relate or exchange ideas, knowledge, and feelings. It is an essential part of any healthy partnership.

What Are The Theories Behind This Worksheet?

There are a number of theories behind couples’ communication;

  1. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

This theory identifies maladaptive patterns within the relationship that interfere with secure bonds and attachments. Couples learn to create safe emotional bonds within the relationship.

  1. The Gottman Method 

This approach is designed to help couples deepen their understanding of one another while managing conflict in their relationship.

  1. Relational Communication Theory

This theory suggests that couples interpret information as an indicator of dominance versus submission, orientation versus arousal, or a sense of affiliation or disaffiliation.
