What is the theory behind the Family Roles in Addiction?

The theory behind this worksheet is the Family Systems theory.  This theory believes that negative behaviour will manifest in a dysfunctional family. In this case, the roles represent different forms of dysfunctional behaviour, aside from addiction.

How will this worksheet help?

This worksheet can be used by the counsellor in family counselling and even in individual counselling. The assessment of each member of the family on the roles the other members play will give the counsellor important information in dealing with the addiction.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet will be given by the counsellor to all members of the family. Each member will assess who is playing what role in their family to the addiction.  Since all members will respond, there will be inter-rater validation if the perspectives of the members are the same or if varied.
