What is the theory behind the How I Feel CBT Worksheet?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on helping people become aware of their thoughts, feelings and actions so that they can identify faulty patterns of thinking and modify them. A great way to teach the same concept to kids is to make them practise writing about their negative and positive emotions and what they can do to cope with them or simple express them effectively. 

How will the worksheet help? 

This worksheet will help younger clients become more aware of their negative feelings and the steps they can take to cope with them and also any positive feelings and how they can express them appropriately. They can choose from the given actions or write their own. This will help them keep a record of what strategies are the most effective. 

How to use the worksheet?

Instruct the young client to write down how they are feeling. Then tell them to write why they are feeling that way. Tell them they can have multiple reasons for feeling that way and they can write down whichever they want. Then tell them to write how they want to act based on that feeling and if it is a bad feeling then what they can do to cope with it.
