What is the theory behind the I’m Scared Worksheet?
Oftentimes young kids find it difficult to put their anxious and fearful thoughts into words. Sometimes they may simply look scared or tell adults they are scared but not able to explain the cause of their fear. In times like these, it can be helpful to allow them to write or draw the objects of their fear at their own pace. This way they will come to realise that their fear is validated instead of brushed off.
How will the worksheet help?
This worksheet will help young clients to write or draw about the object of their fear. It will help them put their fears onto paper in their own way without feeling the pressure to speak about it. Supervisors can then probe further to determine what is causing them to be scared so that an effective solution can be reached to alleviate their distress.
How to use the worksheet?
This worksheet can be used by teachers, counsellors or therapists with young clients who are experiencing issues with anxiety or seeking help for anxiety related issues. Provide relevant drawing materials and instruct them to write or draw about whatever is making them feel scared or fearful.
