Schema Therapy CBT Worksheet

What is the theory behind this schema therapy CBT worksheet?

Jeffry Young developed schema therapy as an alternative to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for patients who did not respond to CBT. Schema therapy addresses early maladaptive schemas that emerge during childhood. It is also used to treat people who have personality disorders, depression, anxiety, or other mental illnesses.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will assist clients in understanding their core emotional needs and learning adaptive ways to meet those needs. It also helps to change negative childhood emotions and provides a chance for healing. This therapy can assist clients in developing feelings of adequacy and self-worth.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet will be completed in front of the therapist during the session. After psycho educating clients about their Schemas, therapists work with them to identify and challenge their schemas. When a child’s basic emotional demands are met, healthy schemas emerge. This allows children to form positive perceptions of others, themselves, and the world.
