What is the theory behind these therapy worksheet for children of divorce?

Divorce can be a stressful event for a couple. It can also be unsettling for the children of parents getting a divorce. Research indicates that children whose parents are going through a divorce can develop different internalizing (e.g. anxiety, depression) and externalizing issues (e.g. anger) since the living situation and their family environment drastically change after the divorce of their parents. It is, therefore, imperative to help children of divorce process the event and its associated emotional and behavioral changes.
