Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Worksheet

What is the theory behind this Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Worksheet?

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) helps children, youth and families deal with difficulties after experiencing traumatic events. When the client is a child, it also includes family or primary caregivers as active participants in the treatment process. It was originally formed to help young victims of sexual abuse but is now used to help with all sorts of trauma.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will help young clients identify the physical sensations that they feel as a result of experiencing negative thoughts or emotions related to their trauma. Since trauma affects every individual differently, this information can help therapists learn specifics about their client’s reactions to their trauma. It is also helpful because children may find it difficult to describe how they are affected by their trauma.

How to use the worksheet?

Instruct the child to use colours or markers to mark the parts of the body where they feel sensations whenever they are faced with triggers of their trauma or unwanted negative thoughts related to it. Responses can then be further probed as sessions progress.
