Triggers and Coping Strategies for Depression Worksheet

What is the theory behind this Triggers and Coping Strategies for Depression Worksheet?

Depression is a prolonged and persistent state of sadness and despair that causes multiple psychological and physical symptoms. It is important to be aware of what triggers and worsens one’s depressive state and its accompanying symptoms to be able to form a plan of action to cope with them.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will help clients list down some major triggers of their previous depressive episodes and what coping strategies they plan to utilise in case they are exposed to similar triggers in the future. This will help them have a plan of action in mind to deal with these triggers and not let them influence their mood in a negative way.

How to use the worksheet?

Instruct the client to recall their past depressive episodes and list down some major triggers that they believe pushed them further into that depressive state. Then based on their knowledge of effective coping strategies of their choosing they have to write down which they plan to use in case those triggers or something similar occur again.
