Understanding Anger Triggers Worksheet

What is the theory behind this Understanding Anger Triggers Worksheet?

Anger is an intense emotion that has the power to make people take rash and impulsive actions that may even be harmful to the self or others. Destructive anger is expressed in such a way that always leads to some sort of harm to others, either emotional or physical. The key to anger management is to always be aware of what triggers one’s anger so that they can gain control of their actions rather than letting their anger take control.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will help clients become aware of their anger triggers, something that is a crucial step before moving forward with key anger management skills. Most of the time people are unaware of the source of their anger outbursts and it is an important part of therapy to help them become more aware of their thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used in the initial sessions of anger management training for people having difficulties in controlling their anger outbursts. Instruct the client to go through the information about what anger triggers are and how they can be identified using an anger diary. Tell them to practise it for a while to determine their own anger triggers.
