Driving Phobia also known as Amaxophobia refers to excessive anxiety and fear related to driving or riding to the point of hampering one’s daily functioning. The intensity can vary from individual to individual such as someone may be excessively fearful of even thinking about being in a vehicle while someone else may be able to ride in one with a person they trust. Virtual reality exposure therapy has shown promise in recent research in overcoming driving phobia.

This worksheet can be used to determine an individual’s fear hierarchy related to their driving phobia to plan exposure therapy. Work with the individual to list down situations pertaining to their driving and riding fears from least feared to most feared giving each a rating on a scale from 1 – 10.
