What is the theory behind this Skin Picking CBT Worksheet?

Skin Picking, also known as Excoriation Disorder, is characterised by constant urges to scratch or pick one’s skin causing it to scar. It has been placed under the category of Obsessive Compulsive disorders although it differs from it to an extent. Unlike OCD, these individuals do not have obsessive thoughts, feel a sense of relief after committing the act and are more likely to cause self-injury as a result of it. CBT can help such individuals identify and modify faulty thought processes and triggers of their urges along with implementing behavioural interventions.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will help individuals struggling with skin picking to be observant of their skin-picking behaviour to provide a deeper insight into it. This worksheet will provide valuable information to both the therapist and the client that can be a crucial influence in the formulation of therapeutic goals.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used in the inertia CBT sessions to help the client and the therapist to  better understand the problem behaviour. Instruct the client to be more observant of the circumstances within and surrounding their problem behaviour and note them down in the worksheet.
