What is the theory behind this Back to School Anxiety Worksheet?

The start of the school year marks key transitions for many students. While some may be ready to welcome the challenges the new school year would bring, others are equally nervous and anxious. It is normal for students to feel some level of anxiety. A counsellor or parents can assist them in overcoming this anxiety so that it doesn’t discourage them from returning to school. 

How will the worksheet help?

The worksheet will help students list down their worries about returning back to school and think of coping strategies that they could utilise to dissipate those worries. It will also prompt them to prepare a checklist for all the things they need to take on the first day to school to minimise any anxiety brought on by a lack of organisation.The idea is to make them feel prepared. 

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used by counsellors, parents and teachers before the new school term begins.  Instruct the students to list down their worries and think of how they can cope with them. Also tell them to prepare a checklist of all the things they require for their first day so that nothing important is missed.
