What is the theory behind this CBT Graded Exposure Worksheet?
Graded exposure is a technique that helps individuals gradually face the objects or situations that they fear as a way to desensitize them to the fear or anxiety that is evoked on its exposure. It is used as part of exposure therapy to help individuals overcome their fears. Exposure begins with the least feared object or situation and progresses towards most feared ones at a gradual pace.
How will the worksheet help?
The worksheet will help clients who are undergoing exposure therapy to take note of their thoughts and feelings when being exposed to a feared object or situation in their fier hierarchy. It will help them evaluate how their thoughts and feelings change for the better with repeated exposure.
How to use the worksheet?
Instruct the client to use the worksheet to note down their thoughts and feelings throughout the process of being gradually exposed to one of the listings on their fear hierarchy. Tell them to note down how long it took for them to be able to move on to the next one and how their thoughts and feelings changed throughout.
