What is the theory behind this CBT Problem List Worksheet?
A problem list contains all the presenting problems of the client that they are seeking therapy for or they want to address in the therapy sessions. Listing down the problems helps both the client and the therapist to work together to identify which areas need to be emphasised or given the most importance to. It can also help the therapist identify common themes.
How will the worksheet help?
This worksheet will help the therapist list down the client’s presenting problems, rank them in order of importance or severity and also identify common themes if any. It will also help them write down the unhelpful behaviour and thinking patterns related to the client’s presenting problems. This stage is important for the therapist to move on to case formulation.
How to use the worksheet?
This worksheet can be used by therapists practising Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. They can use it during initial sessions to note down the client’s presenting problems, the related unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours and identify common themes that can be worked on in therapy. This worksheet can be used prior to working on the case formulation for the client. .
