What is the theory behind this CBT Therapy Worksheet Anxiety?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has proven to be very effective for treating anxiety related mental health issues. It helps people gradually face their fears instead of engaging in avoidance behaviours that ultimately worsen their anxiety. CBT also helps them identify and understand the underlying causes of their worry and anxiety so that therapy can address the root level of their problems.  

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will help clients to allot a particular time each day when they can think about their worries. This exercise is meant to help them delay their worrisome thoughts and focus on the tasks at hand instead. This will help them not let their worries affect their everyday functioning.This will be particularly useful for clients with Generalised Anxiety Disorder. 

How to use the worksheet?

Instruct the client to set aside two slots of 10 minutes each day as their ‘worry time’. Whenever they feel their worries are overwhelming them, they must remind themselves to wait till their worry time and try to engage in any other distracting activity. They have to note down their chosen timings, the content of their worries and what helped or did not help as a distraction technique.
