Child Behavior Worksheet- Behavioural Contract

What is the theory behind this Child Behavior Worksheet- Behavioural Contract?

A behavioural contract is a written agreement between parents and child that specifies what behaviour is expected of them in return for a reward of their choosing. It is a technique used to modify unhelpful behavior in children and adolescents by encouraging them to work towards earning a certain reward. The contract can focus on a single behaviour or lay out a set of rules concerning multiple behaviours that have to be abided till a certain date.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will provide a basic template of behavioural contract that parents can use with their kids to help introduce new behaviours or modify existing unhelpful ones. Drawing up the behavioural contract has to be a collaborative process between the parents and the child so that the child is well aware of what needs to be done.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used in family therapy sessions to help parents seeking to introduce positive behaviours in their children. Instruct them to collaborate with their child and write down the behaviours that  need to be followed along with the consequences and rewards. It is important for the child to feel involved in the entire process so they don’t feel like something has been imposed on them against their will.
