What is the theory behind this Child Behavior Worksheet- Contingency Management?

The concept of contingency management is based on the basic behavioural principle according to which any behavior that is closely followed by a positive consequence is likely to be repeated again. It can be used to reinforce positive behaviours and diminish negative behaviours in children. One way to do this is to use contingency maps to help children visualise and link their actions with the consequences.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will provide a basic template of a contingency map that parents and teachers can use to help children visualise the results they should expect after engaging in certain behaviours. It can be particularly helpful to manage behaviour of young children, specially those with Autism, ADHD and other developmental disorders.

How to use the worksheet?

In the black box make an image and write down the situation or trigger you want to specify. In the green boxes draw an image and write down the positive behaviour that is expected from the child followed by a naturally occurring reward. Similarly in the red boxes draw an image and write down the problem behaviour that the child should not engage in followed by a naturally occurring negative consequence for doing so.
