What is the theory behind the template?

Group therapy is a specific therapeutic medium where multiple individuals facing similar challenges are placed together for an intervention. This may be a once-off group or it could involve multiple sessions with the same group.

Any group therapy intervention requires clear planning. This planning will enable the therapist to facilitate the group process confidently and contain the individuals as they move through the activity. A clear plan will also support good time management. Planning a full program will ensure that you meet all the desired outcomes for the group.

How will the template help?

This template will help a therapist structure a group therapy curriculum for a group therapy program. This template will offer a facilitator at a glance what the program looks like in its entirety and what the aims and outcomes are. This will help a facilitator adapt the program if needed with the full picture in mind.

This template will add to other beneficial templates for group therapy such as group consent and informed consent agreements.

How to use the template?

As a therapist, you can use this template to plan a group therapy program or curriculum. The template offers space for 8 sessions – your group might have a different number of sessions, so feel free to adjust the template to your specifications and requirements.
