What is the theory behind this List of Core Beliefs CBT Worksheet?

Core beliefs are our most basic beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world around us. The nature of these core beliefs is said to determine how one perceives and processes events in their life. In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the negative core beliefs are identified and challenged to help individuals reframe the resulting negative automatic thoughts into helpful positive ones.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will provide a list of common negative core beliefs that heavily influence one’s automatic thoughts and subsequent emotions and behavior. This worksheet can educate individuals about some common types of core beliefs and what influence they may have on their automatic thoughts.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used in psychoeducation sessions of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to educate clients about what core beliefs are and how they influence one’s thoughts. Clients can refer back to the list once their own core beliefs are identified as the sessions progress.
