Video & audio overview of the worksheet

What is the theory behind the worksheet?

Gestalt therapy focuses on the idea that integration of the self is key to healing and development. This requires active engagement in a therapeutic process to become aware of the various gestalts that you have and how you can integrate them into a cohesive self-concept. This aims to end unhelpful patterns, thoughts, beliefs, and cycles.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet offers one of the various techniques often used in gestalt therapy, exploring the different parts of yourself. This is helpful because it requires you to actively engage in honest self-reflection regarding who you are and what are the main forces that drive your thoughts and responses.

By creating clear pictures of these parts you will then be able to interact with them and get to know yourself through new perspectives. This can help you integrate the different parts into a healthy whole.

How to use the worksheet?

Take time to complete this worksheet. Remember to always work with kindness and not with judgment. Follow the steps – even if it takes you a few days to complete.

Identify each of the main parts and create their images in the template (or a blank page if you don’t want to use the template). Start slowly and with just a few of the main parts, if you try to start with every part of yourself you may find it hard to begin at all.

Once you have created the image and name of the main parts (whether you have done so with words or art supplies) you can consider saying something to these parts. Working with a mental health practitioner through this process can be a good idea to ensure you feel safe and contained.
