What is the theory behind the Schizophrenia Worksheet?

Schizophrenia is a psychotic mental illness characterised by  serious disturbances in one’s ability to perceive reality leading to disorders thinking, emotional responses and maladaptive behaviours that cause significant loss of daily function. Some key features of this disorder are frequent delusions, hallucinations and very odd emotional and behavioural responses. Since the intensity of the symptoms varies over time it can be helpful for individuals with schizophrenia to keep track of their warning signs.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will allow clients seeking help for their schizophrenia diagnosis to be aware of and identify the warning signs that indicate an oncoming episode. This can help them in seeking early intervention when needed to prevent the complications arising from a full blown episode occurring under no supervision.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used for clients seeking help for schizophrenia symptoms but those that seem coherent enough to understand and execute the task. Instruct them to go through the list of warning signs and identify the ones that apply to them. They can use the blank space to add any others that are not part of the list.
