Video & audio overview of the worksheet

What is the theory behind the worksheet?

Ensuring that you have a plan after you engage in self-harm (whether it is an immediate plan such as first aid, or a longer-term plan such as informing someone) is an important practice.

However, before you can create an aftercare plan you will need to regulate and feel safe once again. It is a good idea to work with another person when creating your plan in case you feel emotionally triggered and need to be supported through this process.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet offers an overview of what aftercare can look like as well as a reflective tool that can be used to start your aftercare plan. This reflective tool can be used to create a Safety Plan or develop which redirecting behaviors you choose to try.

How to use the worksheet?

Complete the reflective tool honestly. This will help you decide on the next step of action – dealing with the self-harming behaviors.

You may wish to complete this or discuss the reflection with a mental health practitioner who can then help you develop the next step on your aftercare journey.
