Internet Addiction Worksheet

What is the theory behind this Internet Addiction Worksheet?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Internet Addiction (CBT-IA) specifically helps individuals to identify and modify faulty behavioural patterns, core beliefs and negative thinking contributing to their addiction while also identifying and treating any co–occurring conditions that accompany it. Once they are past the denial phase, various strategies can be used to slowly help them manage their addiction.

How will the worksheet help?

This worksheet will help individuals seeking CBT-IA to keep a time log of their internet use for a period of one week. This can help the therapist and the client notice their addiction patterns and help them in planning appropriate interventions. It will also serve as a self reflection exercise for the individual when they are forced to consciously assess a time log of their internet use.

How to use the worksheet?

This worksheet can be used in the initial sessions of CBT-IA both as a self-reflection exercise and a way to assess patterns of internet use. Instruct the individual to put the worksheet near their computer/laptop where it is easily visible and keep track of their internet use for a period of one week and bring it back in the next session. Encourage them to be honest with their time logs as it will only help in determining the correct treatment interventions.
