What is the theory behind this PTSD psychoeducation worksheet?

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD is classified as a ‘Trauma and Stressor related disorder’ in DSM 5 that occurs after an individual witnesses a highly traumatic event in their life. It can be mild to extremely debilitating. DSM-5 recognizes four symptom clusters for PTSD: intrusion, avoidance, negative alterations in cognition and mood and heightened arousal related to the traumatic event.

Among the many treatments for its symptoms is the use of psychoeducation interventions. The goal of psychoeducation is to provide structured, up-to-date information about the illness or condition and empower the individual with necessary coping tools and strategies thus actively involving them in their recovery process.
